The DATEX II specifications are maintained currently by a DATEX II stakeholder organisation that has been hosted by several EU funded programs, among which the EasyWay program. Since 2013 the DATEX II organisation is part of the European ITS Platform, co-funded by the EU. EIP is a program that deals with pan-European consensus forming and harmonization. DATEX II is covered by activity 4.2 in EIP and activity 4.4 in EIP+. The DATEX II stakeholder organisation is currently chaired by The Netherlands.
The DATEX II stakeholder organisation is structured in two layers:
- The Strategic Group (SG) steers the work programme of the DATEX II stakeholder organisations and reports to the EIP Steering Committee and the European Commission. SG itself takes care of liaison with other relevant stakeholder groups and outreach acitvities, like the organisation of a DATEX II User Forum. Technical day-to-day work is assigned by the SG to a dedicated technical working group.
- The Technical Group (TG) receives its terms of reference from the SG, and also reports back on its progress. The TG consists of technical experts that deal with the day-to-day management of the DATEX II specifications, which includes user support and user feedback via this website, but also all technical work required in preparation of the DATEX II standardization. TG therefore works in close cooperation with CEN TC278 Working Group 8.
The presented organisational position is seen as a fitting solution during the life of the EIGP programme. In parallel to the work programme described above, the SG TG and EU work together on defining a long term, self-sustained organisational structure for the time after EIP.
